Can I Trust My Rental Car Insurance Coverage Decision?

Hey guys, so I rented this fancy BMW from SIXT in Utah and paid with my trusty Chase Sapphire Preferred card. The plan was to rely on Chase’s rental car coverage, so I said no to SIXT’s optional protection both when booking online and at pickup. The original price I paid was around $260, but surprise surprise, when I got to pick up the car, there was this sneaky “Peace of Mind” package added to my rental agreement for an extra $226. It included all sorts of bells and whistles like LDW, liability coverage, roadside assistance, and more, bringing the total to about $300 with taxes and fees.

Now, here’s the kicker – during my rental, some road debris decided to play target practice on my windshield, leaving a nice chip/crack. I know that to make a claim with Chase, I needed to have declined the rental company’s LDW. So, I’m planning to challenge SIXT on this Peace of Mind charge because I am pretty sure I declined it upfront.

My big worry is this: if SIXT admits they goofed up, removes the LDW charge, and gives me a corrected agreement showing I declined it, will Chase still cover the windshield damage? Or will they pull a fast one and say that because the original agreement had LDW listed, tough luck on the claim?

Now, I’m at a crossroads. Option 1: Keep fighting with SIXT, get them to admit their mistake, refund the LDW, and sort out the paperwork. Then, try my luck with Chase for the windshield repair. Option 2: Throw in the towel, swallow the extra $300, and let SIXT take care of the windshield through their LDW.

So, here I am, stuck in rental insurance limbo, trying to figure out my next move. Has anyone been through a similar circus with rental car insurance shenanigans? Any advice on how to handle this sticky situation? Hit me up with your thoughts!
