Hey there, I’m a mid-30s guy who recently took a trip to Singapore before moving to an East Asian country. This journey was all about soaking up the local vibes and, of course, indulging in some seriously tasty eats.
Day one kicked off with me powering through the jet lag after a red-eye flight. I strolled around Chinatown, soaking in the architecture and atmosphere. The heat hit me hard, so I retreated to my hotel for some AC relief. The day ended with a scrumptious Peranakan dinner and live music at an Irish pub.
On day two, I ventured out to the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve for some wildlife spotting. Otters, birds, and mudskippers made an appearance, and I wrapped up the day with a stellar hawker center meal and a szechuan dinner.
Day three took me to the botanical gardens and the national museum. While the gardens were a bit crowded for my taste, the museum offered intriguing insights into Singapore’s history. I capped off the day with a stroll through the vibrant neighborhood of Little India.
Day four was an exciting day trip to Changi Hawker Center and Pulau Ubin island. The hawker center served up delectable Malay cuisine, and Pulau Ubin provided a rural escape, complete with hiking and some monkey encounters.
Day five was a mix of a haircut, exploring the business district, and savoring more delicious food at the Old Airport Road hawker center. I even caught a short concert by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
Day six was all about unwinding at the Asian Civilizations Museum and soaking up some much-needed rest. And on day seven, before my departure, I made sure to visit the Changi hawker center one last time to savor the flavors.
The trip was a success, with the food stealing the show. The blend of Malay, Chinese, and Indian cuisines at the hawker centers was a true delight. The wetland reserve and wildlife encounters left a lasting impression, as did the stunning architecture scattered throughout the city.
While the trip wasn’t exactly an adrenaline-pumping adventure, it was a perfect opportunity to kick back and enjoy some top-notch food. The week-long duration felt just right, though my mind occasionally wandered to the impending move abroad.
Some things didn’t go as planned, like the boring Orchard area where I stayed and the exorbitant prices at sit-down restaurants. And
