Hey guys, so I recently took a trip down memory lane and revisited the bucket list I made back when I was 24 (I’m about to hit 33 soon). And let me tell you, it was a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions. Looking at that list, I realized that I’ve barely even made a dent in it. Life just got in the way, you know – money issues, not enough leave or time off work – and it left me feeling a bit bummed out.
But here’s the kicker: I’m not as hyped about ticking off those bucket list items as I used to be. There was a time when I would spend hours scrolling through travel destinations, dreaming of being there. Nowadays, it’s more like, “That place sounds cool, but meh, maybe next time.” Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike traveling. I don’t regret the trips I’ve taken in the past. If I had all the time and money in the world, I’d be jetting off somewhere right now instead of typing this out.
But reality hits hard. I’ve got a mortgage to pay on a single income, and my apartment needs a ton of fixing up. So, I’m a lot more cautious with my cash now compared to my 24-year-old self. Part of me still wants to check off those bucket list items, but another part of me wouldn’t be devastated if I never got around to it.
That got me thinking – why do I even want to travel? Am I truly passionate about it, or am I just convincing myself that I enjoy it because it’s the “cool” thing to do? I mean, with the sheer number of tourists out there, it’s easy to feel like you’re missing out if you’re not jetting off to exotic locales. And it’s not like social media is helping with that pressure. I know influencers are just paid to promote stuff, and I know that what we see online isn’t always real. But still, there’s this nagging feeling that if I’m not into travel, I’ll be seen as a boring, unadventurous person.
Sorry for the rambling, guys. I’m just feeling a bit overwhelmed and conflicted today. Am I lying to myself about wanting to travel, or am I just fooling myself into thinking that I’ll ever have the time or money to complete my bucket list? Has anyone else been through this
